The Piano Concerto

By Tess B. Josel

The notes of the piano concerto spill out of my fingers,
Like water that will not stay in my palms.

The dancing melody, the steady harmony,
Draw me into a world of magic and wonder.

Sunlight sparkles through the open window,
Reminding me of shining fairy-dust.

And the piano concerto
Goes on.

Gentle breezes cause the leaves to rustle and sway,
Tiny ballerinas clad in green.

Soft grass tickles the back of my neck,
Butterflies flit gracefully through the air.

And the piano concerto
Goes on.

The sand is soft beneath my feet,
Waves glide up to kiss my toes.

A seabird screams its piercing call,
Fish live peacefully under the surf.

And the piano concerto
Goes on.

Twinkling stars wink at me,
Like the reunion of old friends.

A man in the moon flashes me a smile,
One of kindness and warmth.

A burst of light flares up in my eyes,
But it is only the sun comforting me.

I am safe.
And the piano concerto
Goes on.
