Lonely Is The Tree

By Stefanie Kwit

Lonely is the tree,

flailing its limbs wildly
yearning for a friend.

Frightened is the tree,

disappearing under a blanket of snow,
wishing to be unseen.

Caring is the tree,

as he lends his branches to the birds,
watching the beauty of life unfurl.

Handsome is the tree,

standing triumphantly on the earth,
crisp leaves flurrying about upon his crown.

Winter comes once more,

Lonely is the tree.
