Sightseeing

By Erick Du Toit Ceronio

Please bear with me
as it wasn?t meant to be
that I?d be the guide
during this ride.

As the masters would explain,
'art can be about joy and pain,'
so for a start,
let me show you the rock-art.

Look at the walls
of all four halls,
the happy faces
of two people- at different places.

On the floor, in the dust,
footprints of a woman are cast.
Oh, yes, there are even more
in every corridor.

Here, near the exit
once a fire was lit
that burnt bright and warm
and kept out the darkness and the storm.

Lastly, allow me to show you something on the way out,
you may ask what it is about.
You will see, the woman left this place alone
and turned this heart into stone.
