Unto You I Turned Away

By Rachel Taylor

Lord once again i cannot sleep
I come to you for guidance
while everyone is happily dreaming
I lie awake, never sleeping

When i was 10 lord,
do you remember that day
When my mother died in front of my eyes
unto you i turned away

When i was 12 lord,
My friend jumped in front of a train
i asked you why, he was a good person
Once again, i turned away

i was 13, had a happy life, or so i thought
I changed schools where no one knew me,
found no friends, asked you for help, none came.
Again, i turned away

Peer pressure came unto me
I drank to my hearts delight
arm in arm with depression and rebellion
i never turned to you

How many times do i come unto you asking,
never thanking
For everything bad there is a good.
I couldn't see the open window
next to the closed door.

Many times i have turned into the very face i run from
How did i think i could hide from you.
But you held me close, kept me safe
loved me more than i have ever experianced

Your there, i know
guiding my hands as i write this
while tears were falling down my face
Your tissue was on my cheek, in place
