I woke up everyday sad and gloomy
Wondering why must I live through this abuse
Why me?
Of all the people in the world
Why must I be the one to suffer?

I go through the long, hard days
I worked so hard
Though I was only five
Why me?
Why must I carry the load
And shame of my mother
While she gets drunker or high?

Now seventeen,
My eyes have finally been opened
My faith finally restored
I can see why I was the one

Now I woke up everyday and rejoice
Rejoice in the love I now have
Rejoice in my family and friends
But at the same time I look back and am thankful
Thankful it happened to me
Of all the people in the world
ME
Now I’m stronger
Stronger than most
Most would have died
But not I
I survived
