Resignation

By Bret Higgins

Constricting verses of a new wave line
Constrains my vision and withholds my time
I see a lake of peace and perfect ice
But there’s a queue so wait and pay the price

I found it easier to bolt the gate
Than remain patient and keep my restraint
But then I knew it was a baleful choice
As wind took my breath and quelled my voice

Rage seemed to grow and conquer all our minds
The mass was vexed and hid the wall of lies
I slipped away and ire soon did cease
Blue skies above me clarified my peace

The idiom of ages come and gone
Taught the blind nothing of the coming song
I sit and read all that my mind could take
So I could keep myself from their mistake

They disbelieved the words I tried to say
Shrouded all notions that I could convey
The day has come and I just stand and sigh
I watch them fall in numbers from the sky
