Empty we were, dying in despair
Prisoners to pain and abuse
Wondering at the world out there
Wondering what could be the excuse

They stole our bodies and made us die
We are weak and waiting for peace
And you smile as you make us cry
As we plead for the sorrow to cease

But nothing seems to take it away
Forever are we bound in these chains?
A haunting world, dark night and day
As we pick at what life still remains

Our eyes are blood shot and wet
Our skin pale, tight and scarred
You let us fill ourselves with regret
Saying forgiveness is too hard

You never showed us any light
Only broken promises of fake glory
You led us into a never ending fight
And take great pride in the story

Will you ever loosen your grip on me?
Can nothing destroy your reign?
You will never let us be free
You make us share in your pain

And as I walk, gagged and bound
I feel your evil heat on my back
Your terror is always lurking around
Waiting to push me further into the black

Seems there's nothing, no salvation
Nothing strong enough, not even prayer
God has gone, left His creation
Cos when I call, you're the only one there.

Words float around me, words of hope
Try as you might to stop it, I open up to hear
What's this new way to cope?
What is this life without fear?

The words echo in my head as I lie to sleep
I wonder about this God, I never heard
People talk this way, as it buries deep
I suddenly believe every single word

I see the light in the face of my friend
And I know I want it, more than anything
I want the darkness to come to an end
So I stand with Christians, and I sing

I go forward when called, I make the choice
I decide it is time to try and kill the sorrow
And suddenly I feel free, I hear God's voice
Comfort and peace, and hope for tomorrow

I tell my past, where the devil hides and must stay
That it is over, that I have become new
That God has made the pain go away
And there is nothing more the devil can do.
