I Learned From You

By Christopher J. Sutton

The clouds boil above my head, the lightning shatters
the sky.
The winds rip the land at my feet, the rains blind my
eyes.
Chaos and confusion; thunder, lightning, rain and
pain,
I stand in the furry of the storm.
Lost in the world, cut adrift with no place too call
home.
Desperation, fear, loathing and self doubt,
it floats about like so much wreckage of my life.

A warm ray lays across my face with the warmth of a
mother's touch.
The rains lessen into a soft shower,
memories of child hood days and forest puddles.
The clouds lighten, from brooding black to a soft
white.
I can almost feel the grass on my back from days gone
past,
whiled away looking for castles and dragons in the
sky.
A distant rumble, a faint flash of light from the
storms last night.

A coward dies a thousand times, a brave man only once.
With time, all things pass.
Be yourself, and no one else.
The sapling bends with the wind to stand again,
the oak snaps, be like the sapling.
Beware what doors you open, for some can not be
closed.

A thousand storms have I weathered, a million more
will I endure.
Bring them on say I, I am a sailor of this thing
called life.
While the waves may crash and the winds may blow, I
won't end up in rocky shoals.

Stay your course and be true, this I was taught by
you.
