A Strange Connection

By Scorch1984

As the hot summer days of my 21st year passed me by
I felt a longing for love, for More than just friendship from my male companions
I wanted to feel lips touch mine again
I wanted the intense heat of a man's body to be remembered all over again
I went west to find myself and maybe a man
I went north to find peace, tranquility and a lover
what I found was even better

A connection stronger than any friendship could ever be
A feeling so mazing that one only feels it once in a lifetime
A sensation where age doesn't matter

Meeting you was the best day of my life
At first it was a simple glance and then a double take
My heart rose into my throat and began to pump faster
My body turned inside out and became slick with sweat
Our eyes met
it was never love
For love does not exist when you are 13
But connections do at any age

You were 5'3 two inches taller than me
With blue-gray eyes and dirty blond hair
it would an under exaggeration if I said you were baby-cute
You were very cute
I could tell that when you grew into a man you would be very good-looking.
You accent bowled me over.
I love British accents.

I have this image in my head of you
In a lawn chair by the trailer at the lake
Resting by a smoking fire eating marshmallows
its an image that will not escape my mind, eyes or my soul
it made you seem so young and so wise at the same time

We played soccer and teased each other and went for walks and talk a lot.
I felt like we could do all of that for hours and not grow tired of each others company
I wanted so much for you to be my age so people wouldn't think I was crazy
Because I know that's how they think when I tell them about you.

You changed me
you made me realize that looking for love won't bring me love
I have to be ready for it, and the day I met you the Day I felt that connection to you
was the day I knew that I had found a soul mate, despite age
I was and am willing to wait until you are ready.

But as I sit here alone in Canada while you go back to your homeland of England
I realize that waiting for you could mean the difference of life and another love.
What if you find someone else?
What if the connection you so readily acknowledged isn't there
When love does exist for you?
Then I also I begin to think about what you taught me

Friends are better than love
Connections are stronger than love
They never break or are lost when love can be both
I am willing to wait for love
But I want our connection to last forever

As the hot summer days of my 21st year fall behind me
I find myself longing to go back to school with no distractions.
