When We Were Young

By Lokea-lani Jensen

Spinning in circles
Looking up at the sky
Just having fun
Without asking why
Fighting against your Mom
For a mid-days nap
Turning your head when her fingers snap
Tying your shoes
In knots not bows
Your secret play land
Which no one knows
Getting gum stuck in your hair
Swallowing juice too quick
Among other things
Which we try to forget
These are the times
We were still carefree
When the world was an adventure
That you couldn't wait to see
