The Scars
By Amanda Cox
A young woman stands alone
Looking back on her life
Crying the tears
That she held for many years
She sees her daddy's face
She hears her mother's laugh
She sees her brother's smile
And all for awhile
Her heart is broken
The scars are the tokens
The pain is more then you can bear
You wrap her up
With your warmth and love
And as she screams you say I care.
The pain, the disgrace, the agony on her face
The scars, the tears, the places where she hide all her fears
The pain turns to loneliness
The pain turns to shame
The pain turns to happiness
And all is left plain
the scars turn to weakness
the scars turn to love
The scars turn to coldness
That is felt up above
Yet her heart is broken
The scars are the tokens
The pain is more then you can bear
You wrap her up
With your warmth and love
And as she screams you say I care.
An older woman stands alone
Looking back on her life.
Smiling from ear to ear
As she see's her family appear
She sees her husband's face
She hears her daughter's laugh
She sees her grandson's smile
And all for awhile
Her heart is whole again
She doesn't know where to begin
The warmth is more then she thought she knew
And yet all the while
And yet all the while
And yet all the while
Your love Carried her through.
