When I was five, all my friends bragged
about their dads' career.
My dad's a lawyer! My dad's a music professor!
My dad's a doctor!
But I didn't say anything because I didn't know
what my dad's career was.
When I was six,
I was awarded Student of the Month.
I saw a lot of dads
with their kids, congratulating them.
But not my dad.
When I was seven,
I had gotten good grades on my report card,
and I was awarded a certificate,
but my dad wasn't there to share the glory.
When I was eight,
I played in my school's orchestra
for the first time, and my dad being there
would've made the day even more special!
When I was nine,
a girl in my class used to
take advantage of me;
making me carry her books, push her on the swing,
let her have my dessert...a dad usually helps their child.
When I was ten,
I was in my school's play.
Knowing that is was my dream
to become an actress,
you would think my dad would've showed up.
When I was eleven,
I was just starting junior high,
and I was being tortured!
People made fun of me,
I was bossed around,
and most of my friends
ended up being my worst enemies,
but my dad wasn't there
to dry my tears away.
When I was twelve,
my mom and I weren't getting along.
We argued constantly,
and didn't see eye-to-eye.
My dad didn't help this problem.
When I was thirteen,
I was learning more and more about life,
and life was showing me more and more
how hard life really is!
But my dad didn't come through for me.
Now at fourteen,
I don't worry about my dad,
I don't think about my dad,
and I don't care about my dad.
Because why should I care about
someone who hates me so much,
and won't show any love for me?
