No Disgrace Like Home

By Markae M. Guertin

There's just no disgrace like home,
youngest hides to huff spray foam.
Dad gets drunk and beats up mom,
we know she'll soon pass it on.
having five probably does make one stressed,
but getting hit every day makes us kids depressed.
Sorry you're broke I love you but I'm torn,
news flash Dad we didn't ask to be born.
My baby sis shouldn't have to hide under her bed,
when you pull in at five we're all filled with dread.
Violation, violence, tears,
we all have so many fears.
We've all tried to run one time or another,
we get back home and you beat up our mother.
Because it hurts us oh so much more,
to see her laying on the floor.
Living life here every day,
none of us will be okay.
Brother will never hold a job,
his twin will be a worthless slob.
One sister will dance for money,
we'll see if you think that's funny.
Other sister just won't make it,
in the tub with both her wrists slit.
I'll end up out on the street.
Cold with no shoes on my feet.
Up and down the streets I'll roam,
there's just no disgrace like home.
