My Real Dad

By Larriana S. Hughes

Well dad another year has come and gone,
and how many times have you phoned.
just to say hi or see if I was alright,
do you include me in your prayers at night.
I didn't ask to be here, you see I had no choice,
but tell me do you even remember the sound of my voice.
I receive a check three times a year, and you feel you deserve some praise,
but if you had to pay what it really cost, this child you couldn't raise
you see there's a lot of things that money can't buy, things you wouldn't know,
like being there to help guide me, in things I need to grow,
but that's ok because I'm not in need, my mother makes sure of that,
you see I have another dad who deserves his pats on the back,
he provides for me and gives me things I need, like a real dad do,
so if your wondering whom I'm calling dad just know that it's not you,
but I don't hate you, I just pray for you,
that one day you'll find yourself and maybe become my father.
but do know with each year that passes, I'm becoming another man's daughter.
