My Father

By Kathy A. Sawn

My real dad left when I was almost three.

I guess he didn't care much for mom and me.

The next few years were pretty hard

and I'm sure inside I've got a few scars.

I met my new dad when I was nine

and right away we were doing just fine.

He married my mom and gave us a home

and now I've got a family of my own.

He's really great but I'm still wishin'

once in a while he'd take me fishin'.

All in all life is pretty good

and he treats me the way a father should.
