Daddy Is Gone

By Kim Brummell

When the Police Officer rushed on the scene and knocked on my door;
I was hoping he had the wrong house,
while I was preparing to go to the store.

I had no idea what was getting ready to be told to me.
Acknowledging sudden death;
I wasn't prepared at any degree.

I broke down in tears and fell on my knees.
My body temperature had shot sky-high,
rising well over one-hundred degrees.

My daddy's life was taken away in a fatal car crash.
He was gone forever,
just in a quick dash.

A few days passed away,
as I struggled to get myself together.
I watched my daddy be laid to rest, in that hot sweltering weather.

Daddy's death taught me to never take anything for granted
and live life like there's no tomorrow.
For death, will bring you great pain and lots of sorrow.
